Accessibility is a design principle.
Newport Center for Special Surgery is committed to ensuring that our facility, our services, and our website are accessible to all patients, including those with disabilities. Accessibility is not an accommodation added at the end — it is a design principle we apply to how we operate.
This statement describes the accessibility features currently in place, our ongoing commitments, and how to request accommodations or report concerns.
How our building is built for access.
Newport Center for Special Surgery is designed with accessibility as a priority:
- Ground-floor location. Our facility is on the first floor of 1401 Avocado Avenue. No stairs required to reach our reception, treatment areas, or recovery suites.
- Accessible parking. Designated accessible parking spaces are available in our building's free parking area, with direct pathway access to the entrance.
- Wheelchair-accessible entrance. Our main entrance is fully wheelchair-accessible, with automatic doors and appropriate clearances throughout.
- Accessible restrooms. All patient restrooms are ADA-compliant, with appropriate turning radii, grab bars, and sink heights.
- Accessible treatment and recovery areas. All patient care areas can accommodate wheelchairs, mobility devices, and companion presence.
- Private side exits. Available for patients who prefer to enter or leave through non-main pathways.
Support for hearing, vision, and language.
We provide accommodations for patients with communication needs:
- Language assistance services. Free language interpretation services are available upon request. Several of our surgeons and staff members are fluent in Spanish; some in Italian. Please let us know in advance if you need language support.
- Assistive listening. Assistive listening accommodations can be arranged upon advance request.
- American Sign Language (ASL). ASL interpretation services can be arranged in advance for medical consultations and pre-operative discussions. Please contact our office at least 5 business days in advance.
- Documents in alternative formats. Patient forms, consent documents, and educational materials can be provided in larger print or read aloud as needed.
- Support person accommodation. Patients with cognitive, communication, or other disabilities may bring a support person or advocate to any consultation or appointment.
Working toward WCAG 2.1 AA conformance.
We are committed to ensuring our website is accessible to visitors with disabilities:
- Target standard: WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Our website is designed with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a target standard, addressing perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness.
- Keyboard navigation. Site pages are navigable using standard keyboard controls without requiring a mouse.
- Alternative text. Meaningful images include descriptive alternative text for screen reader users.
- Text sizing and contrast. Content is designed for readable contrast and supports browser text sizing.
- Video and motion. Site animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion setting for visitors with vestibular sensitivities.
- Ongoing improvement. Accessibility is an ongoing process. We regularly test and improve the site, and welcome feedback about accessibility issues.
How to arrange support for your visit.
- Advance notice. When possible, please contact us at least 5 business days in advance of your appointment so we can arrange the specific accommodations you need. Some services (such as ASL interpretation) require more advance notice.
- Contact by phone. Call our office at (949) 644-8182, Monday through Thursday, 8am to 3pm. Friday by appointment. We can discuss your specific accessibility needs and confirm arrangements.
- Same-day accommodations. Basic accommodations (wheelchair access, larger-print documents, support-person presence) can typically be arranged on the day of your appointment. More complex arrangements benefit from advance notice.
- No charge for accommodations. Accessibility accommodations required by law are provided at no cost to you.
If something is not accessible.

- Website issues. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our website, please contact our office. Include the page URL, a description of the issue, and your contact information for follow-up.
- Response commitment. We will acknowledge your report promptly and work in good faith to resolve accessibility concerns. Complex issues may take longer; we will keep you informed of progress.
