Same procedure. Different protocol.
Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation is not a different surgery — the implants used, the pocket dissected, and the incision made are the same as standard breast augmentation. What's different is the entire peri-operative protocol around the procedure: pre-operative preparation, intraoperative tissue handling, anesthesia technique, and structured post-operative regimen. Together, these choices produce a demonstrably faster return to normal activity for the patient.
The protocol was developed by Drs. Larry Nichter and Jed Horowitz at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery over years of refinement. It is not offered under this specific branded name elsewhere in Newport Beach. The most visible result: patients typically return to office work in 24–48 hours rather than the 5–7 days typical of standard augmentation, and to light exercise within a week rather than 2–3 weeks.
The Rapid Recovery protocol is appropriate for most standard augmentation candidates. Patients selecting Rapid Recovery must be willing to follow the specific post-operative regimen precisely — the speed of recovery depends on both the surgical technique and the patient's active participation in the protocol.
Who this procedure is designed for.
Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation is appropriate for most standard augmentation candidates who are willing to actively participate in the protocol.
Standard augmentation candidacy
All the usual candidacy considerations for breast augmentation apply — wanting size increase, good skin quality, stable weight, complete with childbearing, non-smoker.
Willing to follow the post-op protocol precisely
The Rapid Recovery approach requires specific patient behaviors post-operatively — early ambulation, specific arm exercises, structured activity progression. Patients who are inclined to rest and 'take it easy' tend not to get the rapid recovery benefit.
Have a compelling return-to-activity reason
Best suited for patients with genuine schedule constraints (work travel, event, family responsibilities) that make faster recovery meaningfully valuable.
Time to attend the pre-op education
The protocol includes specific pre-operative preparation and education. Patients who cannot or will not participate in the full pre-op preparation should choose standard augmentation.
Realistic expectations about 'rapid'
Rapid Recovery is meaningfully faster than standard augmentation but is still real surgery. Rapid means 'days sooner,' not 'immediate.'
Every scheduled surgical patient is offered a free Rest-Assure pre-operative consultation with Dr. Rand Scott personally — medical history, medication planning, and discharge coordination before surgery day.
Three stages, one procedure.
Because Rapid Recovery is a proprietary protocol developed by Drs. Nichter and Horowitz, the complete specifics are discussed in detail during consultation. The general principles that distinguish the protocol from standard augmentation:
Structured pre-operative preparation
Specific arm-mobility exercises begun days before surgery, dietary and hydration preparation, and detailed patient education about the post-op protocol.
Refined intraoperative tissue handling
Precise pocket dissection technique that minimizes tissue trauma. Careful attention to hemostasis reduces post-operative swelling and bruising.
Specific anesthesia protocol
Anesthesia approach designed for rapid emergence and minimal post-operative nausea — delivered by physician anesthesia (as with every case at NCSS).
Long-acting local anesthetic infiltration
Long-acting local anesthetic in the surgical pocket provides comfort for the first 24+ hours post-op — the window when discomfort would otherwise most limit activity.
Structured post-operative regimen
Specific instructions for the first 24 hours, first week, and beyond — including timing of specific movements, activities, and exercises.
Not opioid-avoidant
Multimodal pain control minimizes opioid need, but the protocol includes appropriate pain management as needed. The rapid recovery is achieved through better technique, not through under-treated pain.
Every Rapid Recovery Breast Augmentation at NCSS is performed under physician anesthesia — no CRNAs, no exceptions — in our AAAHC-accredited operating rooms with endocrinology on call.
Two sites. One recovery.
The recovery timeline is the defining feature of the Rapid Recovery protocol.
Discharged the day of surgery, walking normally with your dedicated nurse. Long-acting local anesthetic provides comfort for the first day. Patients are up and moving actively rather than sedentary.
Most patients feel well enough to return to sedentary work or light desk activity. Standard augmentation patients typically don't reach this point until day 5–7.
Continued gradual return to activity. Most Rapid Recovery patients are back to their normal daily routine (short of exercise) by end of first week.
Return to light exercise, including cardio. Standard augmentation timeline for exercise is typically weeks 4–6.
Return to full exercise, including upper-body work.
Long-term results are the same as standard augmentation. The Rapid Recovery advantage is in the first weeks post-op, not in the final aesthetic outcome (which is defined by implant choice and surgical technique).
Every Rapid Recovery patient at NCSS is covered by our Rest-Assure program: physician anesthesia on the day of surgery, one nurse from arrival through discharge, and post-operative direct access to your surgeon — not an answering service.
