The Physician

A surgeon's eye.

Dr. Andrea Castaldo's academic path is unusual for a plastic surgeon — and it is exactly the kind of foundation her patients benefit from. She earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Illinois, double-majoring in Economics and Molecular and Cellular Biology with a minor in Chemistry — a combination that trains a mind to think both in numbers and in cells. She then received her Doctor of Medicine from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Her plastic and reconstructive surgery residency was completed at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine, where she distinguished herself as an active researcher and educator. Her paper on MRSA protocols in breast reconstruction was awarded the Gaspar W. Anastasi Award for Best Paper at The Aesthetic MEET — a national recognition for original clinical research in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. She has also authored peer-reviewed studies on 3D imaging for breast augmentation, cleft lip classification, and surgical safety protocols. At UMASS she pioneered a biannual Wound Care Conference Series that brought dermatology and plastic surgery together to improve outcomes for complex cases.

She was then hand-selected as the aesthetic surgery fellow at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery, where she trained under Drs. Larry Nichter and Jed Horowitz — the two co-founders of the practice and the surgeons behind the LiteLift® and California Breast Lift® techniques. She has since joined the practice as an associate surgeon.

Dr. Castaldo has also served on medical missions in Peru with the Foundation for the International Medical Relief of Children, providing surgical and medical care to underserved communities and orphanages.

She is an affiliated surgeon at NCSS as part of the Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery team.

The Distinctive Dimension

A woman's eye.

Dr. Castaldo joins the NCSS surgeon roster with something the specialty does not produce in abundance: a fellowship-trained female plastic surgeon with peer-recognized research to her name, at the beginning of what will be a long career.

Nine of ten NCSS patients are women. Many of them — particularly for breast surgery, post-partum body work, and intimate procedures — specifically ask for a female surgeon. Others want the perspective of a surgeon closer to their own generation, someone whose training was shaped by the most current techniques and the most current understanding of what aesthetic outcomes should look like on a modern woman.

Dr. Castaldo is both. That she was hand-selected by two of Newport Beach's most senior surgeons to train alongside them is its own kind of endorsement.
